Week 33 April 20-April 24

Happy Sunday families! I hope you got to enjoy some sunshine this weekend! Ellie went for her first family bike ride with us this weekend and she couldn't stop squealing with delight! 

Please text or email me a picture of your child's drawing for our class tshirt by tomorrow evening.

If you haven't gotten a chance to get caught up with Dragon Masters, we will continue and finish book 3 next week!  This is a book we were reading aloud in class for fun. CLICK HERE to listen to the chapters we have read so far.

Here is a look at next week:

Spalding:This week we will continue to review phonograms and learn 4 new spelling words. Our words this week will be: six, boy, book, by.

Sight Words:This week we will review list 10 all week. Thank you for practicing with your child during reading time at home, we have seen great progress!

Literature: Our story this week will be “The Princess and the Pea." We will explore the original version and read another silly version. Our poem this week is "She Sells Seashells by the Seashore."

Math:
We are working on numbers to 100.  We are first going to look at numbers by groups of ten. Ten groups of ten equals 100.  We will then practice writing numbers to 100 and counting by 5s and 2s.

Science: This week we will explore the rainforest habitat. Students will learn that the rainforest has 4 layers. We will also learn more about the three-toed sloth.

Week 32 April 14- April 17


I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend! Ellie spent lots of time playing outside and being cute. : ) Scroll down to see some pictures of our class friends from this past week! 



                                       

Here's what you will be up to this week at home, as always if you have any questions feel free to let me know :)
Spalding:This week we will continue to review phonograms and spelling words. Our words this week will be: you, will, we, an, my, up, last, not. 

Sight Words:This week we will review lists 5-8. Thank you for practicing with your child during reading time at home, we have seen great progress!

Literature: Our story this week will be “Jack and the BeanStalk.” We will explore the original version and read another silly version. We will use a picture from the story to practice labeling and identify beginning sounds of the characters in the story.

Math:We will work on the order of events and what it means for something to come first.  We will place sequences in order.  We will also learn to arrangement items by size.

History: This week students will be learning about the continent of South America. We will learn more about the famous ruins; Machu Picchu.

April 6-April 9

Happy Sunday! Thank you for all your hard work this past week. I enjoy getting updates and pictures as the days go on. Next week you will find all of our class work on our Google Classroom. Please make sure you log on and submit week 1 and 2 packets by Thursday. Here is a look at what students will be learning next week. 

Spalding: We will continue review our phonograms and spellings words. Spelling words are still review but in the coming weeks we will begin to add new words. 

Sight Words: This week we will review word lists 1-4. A good way to practice is to make flashcards to ensure your child is not just memorizing the list order. 


Literature:This week we will explore a Japanese folktale about courage, Momotaro: Peach Boy. We also talk about the qualities of a hero then write about a hero of our own. 

Math: This week students will be introduced to numbers up to 40. Students will observe place value and practicing writing and identifying numbers. 

Science: This week students will be introduced to a famous woman in science named Jane Goodall. She spent much of her life studying chimps in Africa so we will explore them as well! If you’re feeling up to it, students will make their own binoculars and go outside to explore and study the nature around us.
